The Early Basement Sessions (My Attempt 1998-1999)

Recorded in the confines of Matthew’s Childhood basement with little more than rudimentary voice recording software and sheer determination, this album was where it all began. With no budget but a handful of songs that needed to be heard, Matthew captured something raw and unfiltered. Few copies exist—if you happen to own one, consider it a rare piece of history (this is funny to read haha).

The Snowbird Sessions (A First Time For Everything 1999-2000)

After hearing My Attempt, Matt Castelein saw potential and invited Matthew to craft a more refined demo. They set up shop in Matt’s grandparents’ empty house while they wintered in Arizona, marking Matthew’s first real foray into professional production and live drumming. The sessions centered around Angel Dear #3 and Decisions, wrapping just as the world stepped into the new millennium.

The Old College Try Sessions (First Name Basis – Everything All At Once (2002)

In 2002, FNB dove into Everything All At Once, an intense, weekend-long recording session at Tanza Studios in Clinton, Illinois. The result? A raw, unfiltered snapshot of a band finding its stride.

For those who were there, Everything All At Once remains a testament to what could have been—and what undeniably was.

First Name Basis built its name playing coffeehouses and becoming a fixture at ISU’s Chatters, a hub for student food & music. From late-night sets to packed campus shows, they honed their sound before diving into the whirlwind recording process that produced Everything All At Once. The album remains a relic of a moment—pure, unfiltered, and alive.

Rocky Mountain Sessions (Two Days Drive – Pages Fold (2007-2008)

By the time Pages Fold came together in Colorado in 2007, Two Days Drive had evolved into a polished indie outfit with a clear artistic vision and shows were fun as hell. Recorded between 2007 and 2008, the album blended raw emotion with layered instrumentation, featuring everything from cello to vibraphone. Tracks like Pages Fold and Where The Ghosts All Go gained solid rotation on Colorado radio, a rare feat for a grassroots band. The album’s quality even earned it distribution in Best Buy stores within their home market and a spot on BestBuy.com—an exciting milestone for an independent release.

The Sipes Sessions (The Moon Room Single 2009)

Recorded in Branden Sipes (another great Singer/Songwriter from Colorado) basement during the late winter of 2009, The Moon Room was originally meant to be part of a full solo album. However, due to time constraints and other commitments, this track became the only fully completed song from those sessions.

Additional recordings—including Just Another Day, Portland, Louise, When The Spinnin’ Stops, and I Need You to See—remained unfinished at the time but were later released in 2018 on All Roads Led to Now…. In that same form. Found and given to you.

Now available on iTunes, Google Play, and more, The Moon Room stands as a glimpse into what could have been—a moment in time captured before the rest of the project faded into the archives.

Album Facts and Info:

The Look Back Before the Next thing (Matthew Eizenga – All Roads Led to Now (2018)

A sprawling collection spanning nearly two decades, All Roads Led to Now is equal parts time capsule and sonic scrapbook. Recorded between 1998 and 2015, the album pulls together home recordings, studio takes, demos, and even soundtrack work for Shattered Wing, an independent film. Some tracks are polished, others are raw and unfiltered—exactly as they were when first captured.

A few more fun facts:

• Anderson’s Basement is the very first song Matthew ever wrote.

• Blackbird/Connection (Live) is a rare live recording that sneaked onto the album.

• Several songs (The Notes, For Me It’s Loni) were recorded using just an iPad in Denver.

• Lions & Lambs (First Take) captures the exact moment a song idea was born.

• Decisions and Angel, Dear #3 were originally recorded in a borrowed house while the owners were wintering in Arizona.

• Some tracks were never intended for release—so if you find yourself cringing, just know Matthew might be doing the same.

Whether it’s a glimpse of an early songwriting spark or a fully realized production, All Roads Led to Now is a rare, unfiltered look at an artist’s journey—flaws, experiments, and all.
